Ruderi del Castello della Rocca: La Polveriera

Questa stanza era la “Polveriera” del Castello di Cavour che nella sua storia subì molti assedi. Famosi quelli del 1592 e del 1595.

Nel mese di luglio del 1638, a causa di un fulmine, la Polveriera scoppiò mandando a morte 150 persone e distruggendo in gran parte le difese del Castello. Così Cavour restò facilmente esposta al furore dei soldati francesi del generale Catinat durante il successivo assedio, presa ed eccidio del 1690.

Ruins of the castle: The Armory

This room is the ancient “powder keg” of the Castle of Cavour, which has suffered many sieges during the years. The most famous ones are those dated 1592 and 1595. In July 1638, due to a thunderbolt, the powder keg exploded, resulting in the death of 150 people and destroying a large part of the Castle Defenses. Therefore, Cavour was easily exposed to French troops, headed by the General Catinat, during the next siege, storming and massacre in 1690.
