Tunnel della fontana Romana

Tunnel lungo circa 25 metri, scavato con tutta probabilità già in epoca romana e più volte ristrutturato nel tempo. Conduce alla polla da cui zampilla naturalmente l’acqua: questa, trasportata inizialmente da una canaletta, viene poi condotta alle tubazioni che la portano fino alla fontana “Romana” di Piazza San Lorenzo.

Secondo gli studi di Giovanni Peyron, questa sorgente sarebbe parte integrante del toponimo che, in antichità, avrebbe dato luogo al primordiale nome di Cavour : KAB-UR , infatti, significherebbe “altura” (la Rocca) e “sorgente d’acqua” (questa).

The Roman Fountain tunnel

This tunnel is about 25 m. long and it was probably dug out in the Roman age and then restored many times through the centuries. It leads to the little pool where the source of the “Roman Fountain” is naturally born. According to Giovanni Peyron’s studies, this source (already present in ancient times) was important for the creation of the name of Cavour , that is KAB-UR which would mean “hill” (the Rocca) and “water source” (this one)
